Kathmandu: Renowned Nepali Congress leader and former minister, Dr. Minendra Rijal, has taken on a consulting role in the creation of laws concerning the inclusive electoral system in the Bangsamoro province of the Philippines.

Bangsamoro, an autonomous province with a significant Muslim population, has embarked on a journey of peace and reconciliation after a prolonged conflict. Ahead of the scheduled 2025 elections, efforts are underway to draft legislation governing the inclusive electoral system, and Dr. Rijal has contributed as an international consultant.

This consultant group is actively engaging in crucial discussions and consultations with local residents, representatives from diverse sectors, political leaders, the Chief Minister, and the Speaker. Given the complexity of ensuring comprehensive participation from all stakeholders for the forthcoming 2025 elections, Dr. Rijal acknowledged the formidable nature of the task.

As a former Constituent Assembly member and MP, Dr. Rijal remarked that Nepal could draw valuable lessons from the Philippines, a country that has transitioned from conflict to a peace process. The experiences and insights gained from the Philippines' journey could hold relevance for Nepal's own post-conflict transformation.
